Tech only Portfolios are too RISKY

I assume those of you on this sub are investing, not gambling. I also assume that y'all care about risk. If so, please read on.
I feel like several times a day I see a "portfolio" advice post for "portfolios" that is 100% tech. IMO, these portfolios will perform poorly and have extreme amounts of risk. In a loose sense, portfolios seek to balance many different equities to achieve an optimal risk/reward. This is done through diversification. If you're 100% tech (especially if it's only US tech) you have little to no diversification. If you want extreme risk, you're better off trading individual stock, options or even FOREX.
Why: There is a reasonable chance of a tech correction

Import case study (thanks investing)
Will all this actually happen?: Maybe, maybe not. I just wanted to show y'all that it's not unreasonable. Hence you must diversify to minimize downside risk.
What to do :
Even the pros love tech, but they're not 100% tech: https://wallethub.com/edu/hedge-fund-stocks/38113/
I'm long tech, buy it frequently and it makes up ~15-20% of my portfolio.
Edit: Nice example, I looked at what happened right before the last tech crash:

Wayland Group DD

I want to use this thread to present the key findings of going through recent Wayland news releases. Everything shown here is public accessible. I have no intention to accuse someone of fraud or something like this, just asking questions ....

Feb 20 2019: Wayland Group Provides Corporate Update
I do not want to speak about the well below average generated revenues nor the revenue forecasts. Just as a side note: Ben had a forecast of ~ $15,000,000 for Q4 2018 (October – December 2018). The corporate update states $1,305,033 for Q4 2018 (< 10 percentage of the forecast). In addition, you cannot whitewash the 480% increase to the previous quarter.

“Wayland has also entered into an agreement to obtain additional funds to support the expansion of the Company’s global footprint and fund development of its flagship Langton facility. This agreement is with certain investment funds managed by Alpha Blue Ocean Inc. (“Alpha Blue”) a money manager based in London, United Kingdom with a strong track record of partnering with public companies and delivering meaningful value to their shareholders.”

Founder and CEO of Alpha Blue Ocean Inc. is Pierre Vannineuse (https://www.linkedin.com/in/piervan/)

Ok let’s have a look at their strong track record:

JUN 21 2018
QuickCool AB (Publ) ("QuickCool" or the "Company") has entered into a financing agreement with European High Growth Opportunities Securitization Fund through its financial advisor Alpha Blue Ocean Inc.

Okay next
MAR 28 2018: CybAero and European High Growth Opportunities Securitization Fund (“EHGO”), advised by Alpha Blue Ocean Advisors Ltd, member of the Alpha Blue Ocean Investment Group (“ABO”), has now signed an agreement regarding a financing solution of up to SEK 52.5 million in the form of thirteen convertible loans, the first loan of SEK 4.5 million and the following twelve loans each of SEK 4 million.
See: http://news.cision.com/cybaero/cybaero-signs-agreement-with-alpha-blue-ocean-for-up-to-sek-52-5-million,c2483046

Seriously? Just 3 months later:
June 22 2018: Sweden’s largest military drone maker files for bankruptcy
“CybAero had provisionally negotiated a financing solution with the Luxembourg-based European High Growth Opportunities Securitization Fund, or EHGO, to raise $6 million in the form of 13 convertible loans. The EHGO had hired the London-based Alpha Blue Ocean Advisors to mediate a deal. The first tranche in this solution involved a bridge loan amounting to $227,000.
Nasdaq First North rejected this first tranche arrangement and insisted that, in order for trading in its share to resume, CybAero needed to place a minimum of $114,000 in escrow on a authorized bank account. Moreover, Nasdaq First North launched an investigation to determine if the negotiated financing solution violated stock exchange rules.”

FIT Biotech Oy Company release 20.02.2019 at 14:30 EET
Liquidity crisis, request for a tranche and changes to financial calendar and date of the Annual General Meeting
Despite the financing agreement in force, Alpha Blue Ocean (”ABO”) has not paid tranches envisaged by the agreement since 12 November 2018. This has resulted in a liquidity crisis in FIT Biotech Oy (”Company”). The Company has today filed a latest request for a tranche with ABO. Unless ABO pays this tranche by 22 February 2019, Company will have to file for bankruptcy.

I think you are able to recognize the pattern. However the best is yet to come. Just google “alpha blue ocean death spiral”. Same type of financing for Element ASA – a Norwegian based mining company.

“The Induct Manager will demand a million dollar compensation from the "Death Spiral Mortgage Company" Alpha Blue Ocean Stock Exchange and Finance”
See: https://vaaju.com/norway/the-induct-manager-will-demand-a-million-dollar-compensation-from-the-death-spiral-mortgage-company-alpha-blue-ocean-stock-exchange-and-finance/

Why Would a Company Want Death Spiral Financing?
“A company that seeks death spiral financing basically has no other option to raise money to survive.”

Haha … Sean?

Also have a look after Pierre Vannineuse other investing company Bracknor IG. I did not check, but it possibly has a similar track record.

I could go on like this, but I think you got it. So this means “strong track record and delivering meaningful value to their shareholders.” for Ben?

But where is the GMP certificate? Latest GMP certificates for Germany:

Just for their facility in Canada. Maybe the missing of the announced GMP certificate is because of the german tender process. Maybe not, who knows …

“These certifications provide Wayland with the foundation to start selling product into the lucrative German and other developing European markets …”

Oh really? Not in my view …

See: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2019/01/31/1708838/0/en/Wayland-Group-Comments-on-Recent-Promotional-Market-Activity.html

Really? What is your business model @ Wayland?!

Just to give you one example:

BlackX GmbH received 1,300,000 shares (each $1.50 = $1,950,000) for the creation/translation of pump articles. See: https://webfiles.thecse.com/CSE_Form_9_-_Notice_of_Issuance_of_Securities_BlackX_12Nov2018.pdf?4gdPoHHl03IN_5qafloB2.0FP4zHeqYb=

For what exactly? Example:
https://www.dgap.de/dgap/News/dgap_media/maricann-group-inc-mit-volldampf-die-zukunft-ceo-ben-ward-gibt-ausblick-ueber-hervorragende-entwicklung-der-wayland-group/?newsID=1110809

A template lacking in content with share price predictions of 3 to 5 Euro (4.5 – 7.5 CAD).

Next news release:
Jan 30 2019: Wayland Group Corporation: European Cannabis Giant Wayland is said to be in advanced talks to purchase and re-open the Voss Water bottling plant in Norway
See: https://www.ftmig.com/company-news-releases/european-cannabis-giant-wayland-is-said-to-be-in-advanced-talks-to-purchase-and-re-open-the-voss-water-bottling-plant-in-norway/

The not named London based Norwegian investor in the last paragraph is probably Lars Christian Beitnes (also mentioned in the second paragraph). After reading his name in a Wayland press release again, I got excited. Again? Yes, I have done some DD about Beitnes when Wayland announced the first Malta LOI with Medican Holdings (USD$10.1MM for a recently created shell company in Malta) - see: https://www.newcannabisventures.com/maricann-to-pay-10-million-to-acquire-malta-licensed-cannabis-producer-medican-holdings/

I was glad when Malta Enterprise terminated this LOI “Malta Enterprise then contacted Maricann to request the Company make its own application, as their preference was to work through Maricann rather than Medican.“ – see: https://www.newcannabisventures.com/maricann-to-pursue-malta-medical-cannabis-license-independently/

Why am I shocked to see the name Beitnes and Wayland in a press release?
In my view Beitnes is far away from being a person you should do deals with. He is being accused to be part of several frauds/scams in the past/present and recently left as a Chairmen of Element ASA – see: https://www.dn.no/bors/element/lars-christian-beitnes/rikard-storvestre/avtroppende-styreleder-far-100000-kroner-i-maneden-for-radgivning/2-1-498862

Element ASA … wait … yea the norwegian based mining company who is the victim of the death spiral financing by Alpha Blue Ocean Inc.!!!

There is a long thread about him in a Norwegian stock community with everything mentioned why you should avoid him – see: https://forum.hegnar.no/thread/16282/view/0/0?page=1

Because of the length of the thread, see some highlights:

I know this is much content, but if you want to make your own picture of Beitnes just dig into this whole Element ASA debacle starting last year. Two auditors (EY & PwC) and the CFO left Element … Then Beitnes left as Chairmen but now serving as external consultant for Element receiving 100.000 NOK monthly. https://www.dn.no/bors/element/lars-christian-beitnes/rikard-storvestre/avtroppende-styreleder-far-100000-kroner-i-maneden-for-radgivning/2-1-498862 would be a good start. Or dig deeper into the Swedish Pensions Authority lawsuit against Beitnes.

Finally … just ask yourself why does Ben deals with such shady persons? Did Ben no DD on those guys or did he not want to … And that is just the top of the iceberg.

Scam Ads placement in streamer's bio

Greetings fellow reader, and hopefully anyone from twitch team.
There's a giant social abuse going on using Twitch platform. Advertisements of scam. This is sickening to the very core.
Typical scenario happens like this:
  1. An online scam approaches any mid-sized streamer
  2. They offer streamer $2000-$5000 monthly compensation for advertisement
  3. Streamer agrees, they produce a banner with promocode or affiliate link, streamer places it in his bio
Now, there are various things I have to address, as to why it happens and why twitch and we, as community and fellow human beings, should take an action.
First, what scams am I talking about? List starts with online casinos, e-sport betting, different item scams, and many other forms of gambling. Few times I've stumbled upon Forex links. There are other extreme cases, like Athene's "cryptocurrency cult". I don't want to discuss validity of those things being classified as scams, enough has been said by people far brighter than I, but few of the things to point out:
It is a fact supported by data that those enterprises are rent-seeking firms, extracting money in predatory fashion from the poorest and most vulnerable. I'm not trying to tell people what to do, or what not to do. All I'm saying is that advertisement of scam, if allowed on Twitch, damages people. Furthermore, if advertisement like that is allowed, where exactly does the line cross? Would it be OK if I started to advertise how to steal money from credit cards? This is a real question and case. A Russian carder "lord", i.e. big player Seleznev, actively taught people how to card, thus he created a huge market for himself which he could supply with stolen card info. He was arrested and sentenced in 2014 for 27 years.

As to why it happens and economics behind it...

First, and foremost, it is profitable. $2000-$5000 is a lot of money unless you're Twitch superstar. This is especially prevalent in developing economies: average Russian streamer will have times less subscribers and that money highly exceeds the median income in the country. It's a dream come true actually: imagine you got an offer to earn 3-10 median wages for placing a banner..? On top of that, most streamers who try to monetize their platform have no job, no education and no career prospects. They pursue Twitch career because they don't see other opportunity.
Second, and still important, they don't know better. No one is speaking about those ads leading to people losing money. No one is speaking about how advertising gambling is highly unethical, immoral and uncool. No one is telling them that if gambling scheme is paying them $5000 a month, that means that at the very least they earn $10000 and more from his/her viewerbase.

Solution?

It's quite simple really. Twitch should prohibit advertisement of gambling, financial investments and other sketchy things. This is really all it would take.
I've clicked through 10 Russian streamers with 300-2000 viewers. All of them had a banner. I don't want to post links and dox people, this is not the point of my post. Russia is a poor country. By allowing scams to be advertised, Twitch lets predators prey on those people and make them even poorer. This is definitely not rampant problem, and Twitch is definitely not the only platform where it happens. But it could fix it, without doing much work. Young people and people at the start of their careers are especially vulnerable. They don't see perspective, they want things now. And those people are the core audience of Twitch, in any country.
Thank you for taking your time!

How to become a responsible investor in Forex

My name is Andrew Host and I am the CEO & Founder of the FXSyndicate.org
In the past 12 years I have worked with more than 10000 Forex traders, investors and interested individuals who were seeking advice, reliable services and methods on how to better perform on the Forex market. Let me tell you... The industry is very diverse in all its aspects, it's like a hydra with many services and individuals using and providing them, all seeking to make profits.
The main players are the Forex brokers and the Forex traders, after which comes to additional services like Forex signals, Forex account management, news and indicators providers. All these are players interacting with each other so the connections are multiple, but all leading to the final point: the Forex trader. He is the final piece of the puzzle, the one that benefits or not.
More than 90% of the Forex traders are losing money and this is due to a certain number of aspects. I will, based on my own experience and views, give some examples of genuine investors and advices for those who are not.
1. The Broker There are 100+ Forex brokers operating in the industry, differentiated by 2 main aspects: Market Makers or ECN / STP. The investor must know what these 2 means and he should conclude that a Market Maker will always play against him. A responsible investor will not deposit his money into an offshore, unregulated or poorly regulated broker, because the chances of him seeing those money again are very low. After the ESMA rules taking into action, almost all reliable brokers have a cap at 1:30 leverage. Still there are unregulated and offshore brokers who will let you use even 1:1000. The mirage is strong and many will fall for it.
ADVICE: Never use an offshore or unregulated broker. There are only a 3, 4 really reliable brokers in the industry!
2. The Equity Before making any investment decision, any responsible trader should know and accept the fact that you need money to make money. I have seen thousands of individuals seeking to make unrealistic profits with a low $500 account. That won`t happen unless you are a professional and you will build it step by step, with very rigid rules of risk management, over a long period of time. Of course, you will see advertising claiming to do that on a daily basis, but that is just a scamming method and unfortunately many fall for it.
ADVICE: Never start with a low balance account. A $5000 initial investment would be a healthy start!
3. Investor qualities What I call a good investor material is one that knows how to put patience above all. Emotions in trading are a real thing and you need to manage your instincts very well, otherwise they will manage you and the results will most likely have a negative impact on your investment. If you can not stand to see a certain degree of risk or draw-down in an open session, Forex trading might not be for you. I have seen traders and managers acting reckless when seeing negative sessions, raising the risk by quite a lot hoping to recover the lost funds and heading straight to margin call. The investor must be educated with strong financial principles, to understand the risks involved and the methods to handle and using them to generate consistent profits.
ADVICE: Never invest money you can not afford to lose and never trade money based on emotions and primary instincts!
4. The strategy When you place your money in the market we must assume that you already have a very good understanding of it and you already know that unrealistic gains does not happen overnight. You must plan your investment for medium - long term. A $5000 investment can reach a few millions in a few years. Of course it will take you a few years, but in a few years you will either be a millionaire or short of a $5000 amount. As a genuine investor you will always build capital slowly and responsible and once you reach a certain level you can diversify it and split it into multiple investments based on multiple strategies, rather than risking everything from the start.
ADVICE: Do not expect unrealistic gains overnight with a low investment. Plan it carefully and responsibly on long term!
5. Professional management Rather than losing his money on the markets by failing to understand that it takes years and years to master a profitable strategy, a responsible investor should look for professional account management if he is really decisive on investing in the Forex market. As an investor willing to let someone else manage your money, you must always get all your facts about that someone. Ask for performance proofs, analyze the way they trade, their business practice, the risk management strategy and the consistency in delivering profitable outcomes. Anything short of that, you might just do yourself a favor and stay away.
ADVICE: Always let someone manage your investment portfolio only if you are 100% convinced that your money are on good hands!
REMEMBER: Forex trading is a risky affair and should be done only by those who really understand all the key aspects of this industry. Many individuals do not understand how important this is and it results in them losing their money. Get educated, hold your emotions, choose the best environments for trading and take care of your profits! There are people on the Forex market that embodied unhealthy principles because they were fed with all the lies and unrealistic goals for so many time that they have reached a point where they highly believe the million dollar trade is just around the corner. It`s not! Should you need professional account management with over 3700% certified performance in the past 26 months, we can help! Reach us at www.fxsyndicate.org

GPU mining - Current day explanation breakdown as to why it's not profitable any longer for PowerPayers.

As some of you in the community know that I've been around for a little while now, GPU mining was my thing. I'm going to give you fellow miners a break down as to what my thoughts are and reasonings for not mining any longer.
For those of you whom haven't read my previous posts, I started out in 2012 with two 7950's. I mined and made some decent profits, not great due to messing up some trades but still came out ahead and had paid off all my geapower costs and a little extra.
I decided to expand and go big, I expanded to 12 cards and did pretty decent as well. broke even and then decided to expand even further to 53 cards, however for stability reasons I downsized to 46 280x's and removed any other models.
I unfortunately did not come close to breaking even on that last venture due to ASICS hitting the market at the same time I received my shipment of GPU's that was backordered for 4 months.
I've mined with the new system since April and have yet to come close to any ROI. I've been breaking even at best on power costs when averaging what i've mined to the costs of power I've spent.
Here's some reasons why I've failed and or what was going on at the times:
-asics hit the market at the same time and caused panic for GPU miners that were scrypt based.
As of today and for the past month I've found that it's really not worth the time and effort to mine. Between the time I've spent researching what new coins to mine, renting my rigs etc. all the time that goes into what is now this very competitive industry I've found it isnt worth it. For the people whom get free power GPU mining is still barely worth the time. With 46 cards I would be able to make around $20 a day if I had free power and honestly my time is worth a lot more to me than $20 a day, seeing as to make that $20 I have to really put the time in to ensure I'm making good trades/mining the best coins for the day.
Also the price of hardware is plummeting at accelerating rates. My rigs consisted of 280x's and the pricier models might I add, selling them used for the past two weeks I've noticed the majority of buyers are bottom feeders(People that are looking for a dirt cheap price on hardware and want to basically steal them off your hands). Less than 50% of the retail price is what they're asking for. And for myself, 50% of todays retail price is a slap in the face, seeing as my cards are less than 6 months old, have 2 year warranties and have been babied (not OC'd), when I removed them from the mining room, the majority of them didn't even have a spec of dust on them due to the air flow setup I had and as close to a dust free environment as I could get with industrial surge protection ensuring all hardware was safe.
The general public doesn't think to look on craigslist, or the other free to post local services where you'll be likely to post your hardware. Only generally the bottom feeders are monitoring those sites and they will have no shame in offering you prices that are next to ridiculous, even when you state 'FIRM price' in your listing.
Ebay gives you more exposure however ebay takes a cut on the sales. So you want $180 for your 280x? well now you have to put it up on ebay for $206~ due to the fee's from ebay/paypal, and now that $206 card costs the buyer an additional $15-30 in shipping. At the end of the day with ebay you're likely to be selling your hardware for a huge loss due to their fee's.
I've yet to find a good site where you can post your hardware and reach the mass public to ensure a lot of views on your ads while being able to sell your hardware at a decent price. I've found Reddit hardware page also is hard to get decent buyers, a lot of bottom feeders will approach you much like on craigslist.
As a consumer myself, I find it very odd that there's so many bottom-feeder type people out there on these local trading sites. If I was looking for a GPU or other hardware upgrades on the local trading sites, I'd be pretty fine and excited with getting a piece of hardware that is listed with at least a $100-150 savings(lets say retail is 340 after tax and there's an ad for an item at $200) but these bottom-feeders aren't, they want this stuff for far less to feel that they've gotten a 'deal'.
All in all what I recommend for GPU miners and what I see the future of GPU mining coming to(there's a few scenarios):
recommendations:
-If you don't pay for power, consider still selling your hardware, look at my setup, 46 cards making $20 a day on average. The time it would take to ROI on my hardware is close to 5+years, and that's with free power! What are the chances that I'll ROI if I kept mining? next to none. Most of you out there have 1-6 cards, you're making peanuts most likely. Get rid of the hardware, re-invest the money into BTC and buy your ALT coins that you believed in mining if you were a long term coin holder. Or just take the cash and spend it on other things in life! The price of your hardware will continue to decline and you're likely not going to make more over time with the mining.
Some arguments to consider:
"Price of BTC may rise to $10000 one day, so mining with gpu's now if you have free power is still worth it!" some people state. Well I can tell you that I've seen it happen multiple times where the price of BTC has risen and the price of ALT's has corrected itself. There have been far and few moments in crypto history where ALT coins have gone UP with BTC especially recently. Chances of your random coin climbing the fiat ladder as BTC rises is very slim. Out of the hundreds of coins out there now, what coin are you going to bet on to rise with BTC while the rest of them stay at their current day fiat prices? For example, a coin lets say you hold now is worth $0.10 cents. When BTC hits $1000, it corrects and is still worth $0.10 cents equivalent in fiat. Not many coins are going to RISE in value alongside BTC.(That's if BTC rises, no one can for sure say if it even will!) Chances of you choosing the few coins that do rise with BTC will be slim.
All in all if you have the spare money to mine, sure do it, it's fun to contribute to the community, but don't expect to make a buck unless you've gone industrial size like myself, and even then you're making such little profit if you have free power.(who's going to get free power at $18 a day running costs? not many!)
What the GPU scene needs is new GPU hardware that can mine way better than anything out today for GPU's(likely not to happen for cheap) and or we need GPU coins to hold value somehow, IE a good marketing campaign where the GPU coin(s) can clearly gain back investors.
I don't see GPU mining being profitable again really for quite some time if ever and thus I'm getting out of it for now. I've been burnt bad enough with the most recent expansion that I wont be able to get into mining again for quite some time. Time will tell.
For now I recommend people sell hardware and buy crypto with the money or instead of buying hardware if you're thinking of getting into mining, just buy crypto outright. Mining right now is a loss for the majority of miners out there. Hope this post has helped shed some light to those that are looking to get into mining or who are in mining and unsure of what's going on and what to do. (and again, take my feedback with a grain of salt, you don't know who you can trust when it comes to you and your investments :P)
Also as a side note my power costs are around .12 to .14 per KWh. Which is supposedly quite cheap compared to many places in the world.
